"Over the years, music photography has settled into an established art form, with conventions and rules of its own, so when a photographer can come along with a whole
new lexicon, it's time to sit up and take notice. Matt's pictures somehow take you under the skin of the subject, revealing more than perhaps they thought they were
giving away in the first place. And perhaps more importantly, he makes it look DAMN COOL to be in one of the bands he captures."
Steven Edward Rainey, BBC Introducing

I am Matthew Alexander Patton. I often wear a crew shirt from the film Alien...and get called Nostromo quite a bit.

For me life all about the journey – not the destination. The idea of going somewhere in life is more important to me than that of getting somewhere.
Vague but pleasing...

...this website is a record of my journey so far.

‘Nostromo‘ is simply a word that embodies all of this in my eyes and is a personal statement on several different levels. It is individually presented as;
the lonely traveller, the distant land, the epic journey and the vehicle of choice. Each of which respectively represents; myself,
how I see the world, my attitude towards life and finally my work. As such it is a symbol of everything that I do.

I am a massive fan of And So I Watch You From Afar, Angels & Airwaves, Bloc Party, Frank Turner, and Sigur Rós.

So far my film work has been recognised by BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) via a nomination for a short film award in 2007 and
has been screened at the 2008 Cannes (France) and Hayden (United States) film festivals respectively.

My photographic work has been published domestically in the UK in a variety of film, music and photographic publications; as well as
being exhibited in Belfast, (Northern Ireland), Dublin, (Ireland) and Manchester, (England).

It is my preference to work directly with musicians, building relationships that will allow a more complete documentation of their
art and their lives – after all, the best journeys are the ones that are taken together.

I am currently the photographer for Colenso Parade, Kasper Rosa and The Rupture Dogs; and was previously the photographer for A Plastic Rose (each
pictured below). The fifteen decidedly sexy individuals who make up these bands I am proud to know as friends as well
as working alongside, and they have helped shape who I am as a person.

I currently make sporadic attempts at purveying my limited wit via the blog on this website, whilst writing occasionally for others as opportunities arise.
